The professional training exercise is over for a team of university students, and the Genplan Institute is now stocked with a cadre of promising up-and-comers: the winners of our architecture and urban planning contest.
To recap, the initial internship project got underway in May 2014 with students from various institutions of higher learning, which included Moscow State Automobile and Road Technical University (MADI); National Research Moscow State University of Civil Engineering (MGSU); the Higher School of Economics; the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration; the MARCH School of Architecture; the Strelka Institute, Moscow State University of Railway Engineering (MIIT); the Moscow Institute of Engineers in Geodesy, Aerial Photography and Cartography; and Sholokhov Moscow State University for the Humanities. Students who qualified and were admitted to training program attended a series of lectures given by leading experts at the Institute. In the next phase, the students were divided into three teams for the competition.
The competitors were assigned to conceptualize the renovation of an area bordering the Moscow River whose boundaries were the Paveletskaya and Danilovskaya embankments, the Paveletsky railroad tracks, and 1st Paveletsky Drive. Each student consortium consisted of a transportation person, an ecologist, an economist, an engineer, an architect and a manager. The teams were required to work up a comprehensive proposal for renewal of the space.
On 15 August, the three teams appeared in succession before a commissioned jury to defend and report on their project.
The student training experience at the Institute will continue in 2015 and beyond.
Congratulations to all the students on the successful completion of their job training, and best wishes for professional growth!
